Golden Knights Face Another Obstacle With Goalie Injury

The Vegas Golden Knights have won three in a row and yet there still has to be concern over the impact goalie Logan Thompson’s injury will have on the team.

Thompson is out “week to week” after suffering an undisclosed injury stretching out to make a save in last Thursday’s win against the Minnesota Wild. The Golden Knights hold a three point lead over both the Seattle Kraken and Edmonton Oilers in the race to win the Pacific Division.

"I think the good news is, 'Hilly's' been playing well," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. "[We're] not throwing a guy there who's lacking confidence.”

The Golden Knights also called up Laurent Broissoit to pair with Hill. It’s unclear how often Broissant might play. He has played 106 NHL games, including 24 last season with the Golden Knights.

Hill and the Golden Knights survived their first test without Thompson by bombing the Anaheim Ducks 7-2 Sunday. Hill made 23 saves. But the Golden Knights won that game on the strength of five third period goals.

The Thompson news comes on the heels of the Golden Knights losing key forward Mark Stone to a back injury. It’s unknown how long he will be out.

The Golden Knights are presumably looking in the trade market for some help to replace Stone, although the situation is complicated by not knowing exactly how long he will be sidelined.

Despite winning three in a row, the Golden Knights are 4-4-2 in their last 10. Meanwhile, the Oilers have been hot. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10, despite losing to Montreal on Sunday.

The Pacific Division has four teams (Vegas, Seattle, Edmonton and Los Angeles) with winning percentages over .600.

CAN'T MISS

✌️Montreal Canadiens extend winning streak to two games with 6-2 win over the Oilers. Defenseman Jordan Harris scored twice for the first time in his NHL career, while Alex Belzile, Josh Anderson, Rafael Harvey-Pinard, and Christian Dvorak each potted a goal, and Jake Allen made 30 saves for the Canadiens' second win in as many days. All while ending Connor McDavid's 15-game point streak. At 31 years and 165-days old, Belzile became the oldest Hab to score his first NHL goal since Hockey Hall of Famer Herb Gardiner in 1926.

👑 Kings' legend Dustin Brown had his number retired and statue unveiled Saturday night. Drafted 13th overall in the 2003 NHL draft, Dustin Brown went on to play 18 seasons with the Kings, setting a franchise record of 1,296 games played. He was captain of the Kings for eight seasons, including when the Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014. He's the 7th player in franchise history to have his number retired and just the 3rd King to be immortalized with a statue, joining Wayne Gretzky and Luc Robitaille.

“I’ll touch on what Luc told me, which made me feel better. Because I said ‘Luke, you’re you and I mean Wayne is Wayne.’ But he told me ‘You did something we never did’ and that made me immediately feel better about the whole situation,” Brown said during first intermission.
