Pastrnak Hat Trick Helps Bruins Earn NHL-Record 63rd Win
The Boston Bruins set a new NHL record of 63 wins in a season and it was only right that David Pastrnak led the way.
Pastrnak has been the Bruins’ offensive flag carrier the entire season. He was again Sunday when he netted a hat trick in Boston’s 5-3 triumph over Philadelphia to become the second NHL player to score 60 or more goals this season. Edmonton’s Connor McDavid leads the league with 64.
Czech standout Pastrnak is the first Bruins’ player to reach 60 in a season since Phil Esposito posted 61 in 1974-75.
This is the ninth season the NHL has two players with 60 or more goals, but it’s the first time since 1995-96 when Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux (69) and Jaromir Jagr (62) both did it.
Pastrnak joins Mike Bossy (1980-81) and Wayne Gretzky (1981-82) as the only three NHLers to reach 60 goals by posting a hat trick. It was Pastrnak’s 15th career hat trick, moving him past Cam Neely for second on Boston’s all-time list. Phil Esposito holds the Bruins’ mark of 26.
The Bruins (63-12-5) eclipsed the league record of 62 wins, previously owned by the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings and the 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning.
“It’s hard to win in this league and there’s a reason why this record (was) at 62 because not many teams can get there, so it’s a special honor,” Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman said. “These guys in this room are more than deserving.”
Swayman made 34 saves in the win against the Flyers. Swayman is Boston’s No. 2 goalie. The team played that game with several key players sitting out, including Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Charlie McAvoy, Dmitry Orlov, Taylor Hall and goalie Linus Ullmark.

🏔️ MacKinnon and Rantanen power Avalanche over the Ducks 5-4, take 1st place in Central Division. Nathan MacKinnon assisted on Rantanen’s 54th goal of the season midway through the 3rd, forced overtime with just under five minutes to play in regulation with his 38th goal of the year, and one-timed the OT winner with 45 seconds left in the extra period to defeat the Ducks and give the Avs a two point lead over the Dallas Stars for 1st place in the Central Division. Mikko Rantanen tallied two goals and two assists, in the process recording his 100th point of the season, finishing the game with 102 points. MacKinnon and Rantanen join Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg as the only duos in Avs history to record 100 points in the same season.

1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ Connor McDavid becomes just the sixth player in NHL history to record 150 points in a season Saturday night. With his 63rd goal of the season Saturday night against the San Jose Sharks, Connor McDavid recorded his 150th point of the season, joining some very elite company. Only Phil Esposito, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Bernie Nicholls, and now Connor McDavid have hit 150 points in an NHL season, in that order, ever! McDavid finished Saturday’s game with 151 points with two games left on the Edmonton Oilers regular season schedule.
