Good morning and happy Friday, January 6th.

Congrats to our readers who predicted Cale Makar would log the most ice time from yesterday's poll. While Drew Doughty (25:49) and Roman Josi (25:29) each led their team in ice time, Makar logged 30:17 TOI in a regulation loss to the Canucks last night.🤯

Enjoy your weekend, hockey fam!

Saros Breaks Predators Record With 64 Saves to beat Carolina

The NHL named Nashville Predators goalie Juuse Saros to play in the league’s All-Star game while he was showing why he deserved the honor.

Saros set a Predators’ record with 64 saves to carry the Predators to a 5-3 win against the Metropolitan Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes. He made 28 saves in the third period when the Hurricanes were pressing.

The Hurricanes’ 67 shots against Saros are the most produced by any NHL team in a game this season.

Ron Tugnutt (70 on March 21, 1991 for the Quebec Nordiques) and Mario Lessard (65 on March 24, 1981 for the Los Angeles Kings) are the only goalies to record more saves than Saros in an NHL game. Joe Daley also posted 64 saves for the Buffalo Sabres during the 1970-71 season.

The previous Nashville record was 54 saves, set by Dan Ellis in 2008.

The Predators have gone 5-1-2 over their last eight games to stay in the Western Conference wildcard race. They are three points out of the final spot with two games in hand. Saros and his .918 save percentage have played a significant role in keeping them in the hunt.

Over the last 11 Saros starts, he has posted a save percentage of .909 or better in 10 of them.

The NHL’s Hockey Operations Department picks the All-Star participants for each division. Saros was picked for the Central Division team along with Colorado’s Cale Makar, Dallas’ Jason Robertson, Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov, Chicago’s Seth Jones, Arizona’s Clayton Keller, St. Louis Vladimir Tarasenko, Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey.
