Svechnikov Out ‘Indefinitely’ & Five Other Injuries to Watch Down the Stretch
The Carolina Hurricanes say Andrei Svechnikov is out indefinitely with a right knee injury. He was hurt Saturday in a 4-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday and didn’t play Sunday in a 3-0 loss to New Jersey.
"Andrei had an MRI on Monday afternoon, and had a consultation with our team doctors," Carolina general manager Don Waddell said. "In the interest of being thorough, we are continuing to gather information along with Andrei to make the best decision for his health. We will provide further information after a decision is made."
With roughly a month to go before the NHL playoffs, the timing of the injury couldn’t be much worse for Carolina. Svechnikov (23 goals, 32 assists) is among the Hurricanes’ most dangerous offensive players.
Other injuries to watch as the season winds down:
*Colorado Avalanche forward Artturi Lehkonen: He scored twice, and added an assist, before breaking a finger in Monday's 8-4 win against the Montreal Canadiens. "He'll leave tomorrow from Toronto to head back and then follow it up with surgery the next day," Colorado coach Jared Bednar said. No timetable has yet been established for his return to the lineup.
*Vegas Golden Knights goalie Logan Thompson: He has not played since Feb. 9 with a lower body injury, and the Golden Knights say he’s out “week to week.” Earlier this month, coach Bruce Cassidy said Thompson wasn’t anywhere close to returning. It seems plausible Jonathan Quick could be their playoff goalie.
*Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall: The original projection was Hall would return from a lower body injury in time for the playoffs. But Boston media reports he is pushing to come back with games remaining in the regular-season.
*Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog: He’s been skating since February, but the latest reports say he still may not be ready until the playoffs. He’s recovering from knee surgery.
*Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov: The Wild are battling with the Dallas Stars for first place in the Central Division, and Kaprizov may not be back from a lower body injury until the first week in April.

⚔️ Alex Tuch scores 2 goals in return as the Sabres rally past the Maple Leafs 4-3. Playing in his first game since February 24th, the 26-year-old forward scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season in the 3rd period, the latter of which the game winner, as the Sabres battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Maple Leafs. Dylan Cozens had a goal and an assist, JJ Peterka and Owen Power each collected 2 assists, and Craig Anderson made 25 saves to end the Sabres' 4-game losing streak. The Sabres sit 5 points back from the Eastern Conference final wild card spot.
