Trade Deadline Acquisition Paying Off For Bruins

Woodward Sports
Sometimes trade deadline acquisitions perform exactly the way their new team hoped they would.
The Boston Bruins acquired Tyler Bertuzzi on the March 3 deadline day to provide goals and grit and he is delivering the goods. He extended his playoff point streak to four consecutive games Sunday by contributing a goal and an assist to help the Bruins push the Florida Panthers to the brink of elimination with a 6-2 victory.
What a tip from Tyler Bertuzzi! 🚨

The Bruins can wrap up the series with a win Wednesday at home. Injured centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are both expected to be back in the lineup for that game. Bergeron hasn’t played yet in the series.
Bertuzzi’s streak in his first crack at the NHL playoffs is the longest by a player in that circumstance since Dallas’ Jamie Benn and Columbus’ Boone Jenner had five-game streaks in 2014. Bertuzzi is the first Bruins player to own a four-game points streak to launch his NHL playoff career since Joe Juneau did it 31 years ago.
A nephew of former NHLer Todd Bertuzzi, Tyler played parts of seven seasons (305 games) for the Detroit Red Wings without ever appearing in a playoff game. The Bruins acquired him with the idea that he could provide some secondary
scoring and be hard to play against in a tight playoff game. He has been a fire breather in his first four playoff games.
With six points in four playoff games, Tyler Bertuzzi is two points from tying the team record for the most points by a Boston player in his first playoff series. That’s held jointly by Ray Bourque (1980) and Jason Allison (1998).
Taylor Hall also had four points in the game and goalie Linus Ullmark stopped 41 shots and tried to fight Matthew Tkachuk. The Bruins are fired up, far from satisfied.
"We have to be happy with the results, but we can still be better with our game," Boston forward Brad Marchand said. "We did a great job responding to a little bit of adversity, but these games are over and done with, and they have no bearing on how the next one's gonna be played and the outcome of it."

⭐️ The Carolina Hurricanes proved they can win a playoff game on the road by downing the New York Islanders 5-2 Sunday in Elmont, NY. The Hurricanes had lost eight consecutive road playoff games since 2021. Sebastian Aho had a goal and two assists to help Carolina claim a 3-1 lead in the series. They can clinch Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C. The goal was Aho’s 20th playoff tally of his career. He passed Eric Staal to become the leading playoff goal scorer in Hurricanes/Whalers history. Aho already owned franchise marks for assists (31) and points (51). Aho joins Nikita Kucherov as the only active NHLers who have their team’s playoff record for goals, assists and points.

✌️ Zach Hyman scored at 10:39 of overtime to give the Edmonton Oilers a series-tying 5-4 win against the Los Angeles Kings Sunday. The Oilers trailed 3-0 in the first period. Edmonton forward Evander Kane tied the game on a goal with 3:02 left in regulation. The series is tied 2-2 with Game 5 scheduled for Tuesday in Edmonton. Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist, all coming in the second period. This is the sixth time Draisaitl posted three points in a period of a postseason game. That ties him for second on the NHL’s all-time list. Wayne Gretzky owns the NHL record of 12 times
