What were the Bruins thinking signing Mitchell Miller?
The NHL suspends Anderson & Tkachuk, Bo Horvat with an embarrassing blunder, and more.

Good morning and happy Monday, November 7th.
We're pumped to have a ton of good hockey on the calendar this week but we're particularly excited to see how the Oilers do on their Eastern Conference swing with matchups again the Capitals (tonight), Lightning (Tuesday), Hurricanes (Thursday), and Panthers (Saturday).
Do you think they return home with 2 wins or more? Please reply to this email to let us know.

What were the Boston Bruins thinking signing Mitchell Miller?
Last Friday the Boston Bruins announced they signed defenseman prospect Mitchell Miller to an entry-level contract.
For those who don't know:
The 20-year-old was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the fourth round (No. 111) of the 2020 NHL Draft on Oct. 7, but 22 days later, the Coyotes renounced his rights after the Arizona Republic reported Miller had been involved in multiple racial bullying incidents with a special needs student in Sylvania, Ohio, Isaiah Meyer-Crother, in 2016 when he was 14.
Miller, who was charged with assault and a violation of the Ohio Safe Schools Act, admitted to the incidents in court.
Needless to say, not many people were fans of the signing, including a number of veteran Bruins such as Brad Marchand, Nick Foligno, and captain Patrice Bergeron.
"In this locker room, we're all about inclusion, diversity, respect. Those are key words and core values we have. We expect guys to wear this jersey to be high-character people with integrity and respect."
Apparently, the NHL had no idea of the signing prior and shared the Bruins' players' sentiment as NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman had these strong words while in Tampere, Finland for the 2022 NHL Global Series:
"What I understand and have heard through the media and anecdotally, what he did as a 14-year-old is reprehensible, unacceptable. Before the Bruins made the decision to sign him, we were not consulted. I happened to talk to Cam Neely since the time that he was signed. He's not coming into the NHL. He's not eligible at this point to come into the NHL. I can't tell you that he'll ever be eligible to come into the NHL."
As expected, the Boston Bruins have since rescinded Miller's contract.
“We owe it to our fans, players, staff, partners and community to make sure that our practices and protocols are in keeping with the ethos that we demand from ourselves and as an organization. As such, we will be reevaluating our internal processes for vetting individuals who wish to earn the privilege of playing in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins.”
But it all begs the question: what were the Bruins thinking in the first place?

CAN'T MISS
✌️Anyone else want a two-game suspension? The NHL handed out two-game suspensions to Canadiens forward Josh Anderson for boarding Alex Pietrangelo and Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuck for high-sticking Jonathan Quick. Under the terms of the CBA, Anderson will forfeit $59,459.46 and Tkachuk will forfeit $102,702.70 of salary. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
⛈ When it rains it pours. Bo Horvat managed to lose a game in one of the most embarrassing ways imaginable: stickhandling over and skating past his own puck in the shootout. Canucks fans weren't happy, especially those with money on the game. One such fan even had Bo Horvat respond to his tweet, implying he'd be reimbursing the guys lost bet.
