Good morning and happy Friday, March 3rd, NHL trade deadline day! Cue the band Europe...

At 3PM today NHL teams will no longer be able to swap players until this summer. So unless your favorite team is calling up a player from their AHL affiliate, or signing one of their college or junior prospects, their NHL roster is set for the final stretch of the season in hopes of a deep playoff run — unless of course you're favorite team is the Blackhawks or one of this year's other sellers.

Congrats to our readers who predicted Tim Stutzle would record the most points last night in yesterday's poll. His 1 goal bested Patrick Kane, Brad Marchand, and Alex Tuch, the latter of which is expected out of the lineup for at least two weeks with a lower-body injury.

Talent-rich Bruins Land Another Prickly Scorer In Bertuzzi

NHL Trade Deadline Day always feels like Christmas because there are presents for everyone. But this year there are few gifts left under the tree.

Teams continued to celebrate the league holiday "early" Thursday by making deals to get everything on their wish list.

The Boston Bruins pounded the Buffalo Sabres 7-1 Thursday to become the first team in NHL history to reach 100 points in 61 or fewer games. Earlier in the day, they grew stronger by trading  first- and fourth-round draft picks to the Detroit Red Wings for feisty scoring winger Tyler Bertuzzi. They made the move after putting Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno on long-term injured reserve.

The Bertuzzi trade looked even more important later that night when Brad Marchand suffered a lower body injury against the Sabres.

The Dallas Stars also made a significant gain by acquiring Max Domi from the Chicago Blackhawks for a second-round pick.

The Edmonton Oilers landed 13-goal scorer Nick Bjugstad and defenseman Cam Dineen from the Arizona Coyotes.

And the Vegas Golden Knights brought in goalie Jonathan Quick. They gave the Columbus Blue Jackets a seventh-round pick and veteran goalie Michael Hutchinson.

It feels like NHL teams have exhausted their options for trades, but here are others who could move today:

Anaheim defenseman John Klingberg: Proven puck-moving defenseman. His $7 million salary is an impediment.

Philadelphia forward James van Riemsdyk: Proven scoring touch. Can help a power play.

Montreal defenseman Joel Edmunson: The Canadiens might be looking for a first-round pick because he should be moved by now.

Vancouver forward Brock Boeser: The Canucks have talked to teams about Boeser, but this kind of deal will probably be more easily accomplished this summer. But that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen today.

Vancouver forward JT Miller: He starts earning $8 million annually next season. That makes him less likely to move.

Washington forward Conor Sheary: The Capitals are major sellers, and Sheary is an inexpensive 30-point scorer.

CAN'T MISS

🏆 Sens' Derrick Brassard scores twice in 1,000th NHL game, spoils Kane's Ranger debut. The 35-year-old Quebec native gave the Senators a brief lead halfway through the second for his 10th of the season before Rangers Trouba and Tarasenko scored to give the Blueshirts a 3-2 lead headed into the third. But Brassard wasn't done yet, scoring his 11th just 1:35 into the third to tie the game before Claude Giroux scored the game winner and Tim Stutzle buried an empty netter for the 5-3 win. Patrick Kane finished the game a -2 with 4 shots, 2 giveaways, and 19:36 of ice time.

"I was just coming in and trying to play hard. I'm going to remember that for the rest of my life," Brassard said of the two-goal milestone game. "It was awesome. I was up early this morning, and my head was spinning around."

🎩 Roope Hintz scores third NHL hat trick as the Stars defeat the Blackhawks 5-2. Hintz opened the scoring halfway through the 1st thanks to a Joe Pavelski feed that left the 26-year-old forward staring at a yawning net on the power play, extending his goal streak to four games. And less than seven minutes later the Finnish-native one-timed a Miro Heiskanen pass for his 2nd power play bury of the period before rounding out the hatty with an empty netter in the 3rd. Jamie Benn scored the game winner 45 seconds into the third and Esa Lindell added some insurance with his 7th of the season.
