Good morning and Happy 2023 Valentine's Day! 💕 No better way to celebrate a holiday of love than talking hockey, right?!!

Hollywood’s Ryan Reynolds Wants to be an NHL Owner

Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds has played superheroes Deadpool and Green Lantern in the movies, and now he is trying to ride to the rescue of the Ottawa Senators.

Canadian Reynolds has negotiated a partnership with the Ontario land development group Remington Group for the purpose of submitting a bid to the NHL to buy the Ottawa Senators and build a new arena for the team.

News of the 46-year-old Reynolds and Remington joining forces was first revealed by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Reynolds announced his interest in being part of an ownership group last fall, but said he couldn’t do it alone. He attended a Senators game and was greeted warmly by the Senators fans.

He had previously gained notoriety in the sports world as the co-owner of the Welsh soccer team Wrexham. That team competes in a lower level of England’s league. However, the team has made a major marketing splash thanks to the involvement of Reynolds and the co-owner Rob McIlhenney. He’s also an actor.

They commissioned the Welcome to Wrexham series on Disney-plus and it created impressive ratings.

It’s no secret the NHL is intrigued about the visibility Reynolds could bring the Senators franchise and the league.

However, The Reynolds group isn’t necessarily the frontrunner to buy the team. Commissioner Gary Bettman said during NHL All-Star weekend 15 different groups have filed applications to purchase the team. That list includes billionaires with deeper pockets than Reynolds.

Bettman told bidders he wants the team to move downtown. The team currently plays in Kanata, Ontario, 16 miles from downtown.

Previous owner Eugene Melnyk died last year, leaving the team for his daughters, Anna, 23, and Olivia, 20, to inherit.

Bettman has indicated the league will cut the list of applicants to some finalists over the next several weeks.

CAN'T MISS

🔥 Adrian Kempe stays red hot, scores in 3rd straight game as Kings down the Sabres 5-2. The 6'2" Swedish forward opened the scoring with a short handed goal (watch 👇) halfway through the second period for his 7th goal in just three games. After setting a career high with 35 goals last season, Adrian Kempe is on pace for 40 goals this year having already collected 27 tucks in just 55 games this season. The Kings currently sit second in the tight Pacific division playoff race, thanks in big part to Kempe consistent offensive contributions.

"Obviously, he's on fire. I touched his stick a little bit to get some good luck," said Los Angeles forward Phillip Danault, who had three assists.

🍯 Sabres' prospect helps Northeastern edge Harvard in first-ever Beanpot shootout. 21-year-old netminder, Devon Levi (Sabres' 2020 7th round pick) made 32 saves in regulation plus stopped all three of Harvard's shootout attempts to help the Huskies capture Northeastern's 8th beanpot title. Under the new Beanpot rules, the game will be officially ruled a tie in the eyes of the NCAA and the two programs' overall records this season. But for purposes of the tournament — and bragging rights — Northeastern's shootout win suffices for the championship.
